The four tracks on this record started out as four entries into a contest held by the Japanese Synthesizer company Korg. In October of 2016 Korg asked for contestants to create dark, Halloween oriented music using Korg products. The prize was to be a Korg product of the winner's choosing.
Using three Korg devices--the Volca Sampler, the Eelctribe 2, and most prominently, the Minilogue polyphonic analog synthesizer, we tried our hand at some material that was blatantly in the vein of John Carpenter if not quite an outright pastiche.
We didn't win, I can't remember who did or what the winning piece sounded like, but we were happy enough with the results to polish them up a bit and release them.
There is something very liberating in creating something that is -at least in our minds-unrestrained and unapologetically florid. The results have a somewhat silly urgency that I don't think we would have allowed ourselves if this hadn't been for a contest.
Please enjoy. These are probably the last days in some respect.
